Halfway there...
almost 2 years ago – Sun, May 22, 2022 at 10:27:24 AM

With the Kickstarter going off like a rocket, it might surprise you to know we are halfway through the campaign on day 10, with another ten days to go.

STRETCH GOALS

Since our recent update where we revealed all the remaining stretch goals, we have successfully unlocked the third pack of Turcopoles, and we are closing in fast on the Assassins and Flame Throwers.

If you want to add any of the Stretch Goals to your pledge, pop in and amend your pledge amount by the value of the pack(s) you'd like. Increasing your pledge helps us unlock further stretch goals.

OUTREMER COVER & CONTENTS

Outremer by Peter Dennis

Once again, we have been privileged to call on the maestro Peter Dennis to create the artwork for the Outremer supplement. With unlocking the stretch goal for a free printed copy, we thought you might want to see the whole piece as we envisage another wrap-around cover for the final book.

The Military Orders painted by Steve Beckett

Inside the book, there will be retinue lists for the following, alongside new traits and abilities:

Christian Military Orders - will cover Templars, Knights of St John, Knights of Lazarus and others. These will be disciplined and elite warriors.

Settled Franks - a mix of western and eastern Christians, as well as local Muslims too. Initially predominantly French but over time intermarrying as they settle. Local troops will be included, such as Turcopoles.

Crusading Franks - closest to current The Barons' War retinues. A nobleman and his retinue visiting Outremer from any European country. On a personal visit or as part of an expedition to the Holy Land.

Pilgrims - western and eastern travellers on a pilgrimage to the holy sites. It could contain a lesser knight and their bodyguards, a priest carrying sacred relics to be blessed, and, if lucky, a bodyguard of Knights from one of the holy orders.

Localised Muslims - led by capable commanders, the successors to Saladin and Nur ad-Din, these retinues have a wide selection of troop types, both infantry and cavalry, to represent the complexities of the Muslim realms.

Bandits/Marauders - plenty of choice for a retinue as they make a perfect 'refuge for the wicked'. A Marauder retinue could also be led by a local knight attacking Muslim caravans just because they can...

There will be new rules such as exhaustion caused by skirmishing in the harsh environment of the Middle East, as well as new terrain rules for fighting in the region. We'll share a complete contents list later down the line, and as always, until printed, everything is subject to change.

ALL IN DEALS

Painted & photographed by HVM workbench

We have received several requests for an "All-in deal" pledge level, which is easy to do once the stretch goals are unlocked. However, we think we have a chicken and egg situation where we won't unlock all the stretch goals until we offer an all-in option. Therefore this weekend, we will create the all-in pledge and put it live. Also requested are an "all Muslim deal" and an "all Frank deal". When all three are available, you can freely switch.

Finally, can we ask you to share the Outremer Kickstarter with any friends who could be interested - this helps and is very appreciated.

Have a great weekend everyone and stay safe. 😃

FREE DESKTOP WALLPAPER!
almost 2 years ago – Sat, May 21, 2022 at 12:29:00 AM

Hello everyone, it has been great to see all the stretch goals getting unlocked so quickly and the excitement behind them.

Alongside the recently revealed stretch goals we would like to see if we can unlock a community goal.

We have put together a set of desktop wallpapers using the stunning artwork from Peter Dennis and would like to make them available for you all to download and take your desktops to the 13th century.

In order to unlock this community goal we would like to get the Facebook post linked below from Andy’s page up to 50 shares. Once we hit this number we will make the wallpaper set available to download to everyone.

All Stretch Goals revealed
almost 2 years ago – Thu, May 19, 2022 at 01:57:11 PM

We have a suspicion that everyone has been waiting to see what these final stretch goals are, so with the unlocking of the Turcopoles 1 & 2 earlier in the day, we have decided to share everything that's left...

TURCOPLES 3

What's better than two packs of Turcopoles? Three packs of Turcopoles, of course! Between four and six is an ideal group size for cavalry in games of The Barons' War, so we would like to be able to add this extra pack to the range.

ASSASSINS & FLAME THROWERS

If you are spending time in Outremer and you are a commander of any note, then at some point, you are likely to have a visit from an Assassin or two.

Hired by both (all?) sides, an assassin could be that weapon that puts an end to all-out war...or starts one.

"Many of the Franks were killed there by the spears, by the missiles and stones of the balistas, and by the spreading of Greek fire. There was great mourning among the people, with wailing and lamentation."  The siege of Acre as recorded in Itinerarium Regis Ricardi.

Not only did they throw grenades full of the stuff at each other, but a way was devised to also shoot burning liquid at their enemies!

MUSLIM MEDIUM CAVALRY 2

With only one pack of Medium Muslim Cavalry available, unlocking two more would provide us with a good sized group of these warriors. For a local Frankish commander, these are ideal for mixing into a unit with sergeants providing a group made up of all warriors in his fiefdom. They could also be used as leaders of a marauding bandit force. We will share pictures as soon as they have been finished.

VETERAN SERGEANTS ON HORSE

Only the most experienced are hired to guide pilgrims along the caravan routes from the West to Jerusalem.

These mercenaries have lived through countless skirmishes and battles, plundering as they go, arming themselves with the best weapons and armour they can find. In the linked campaign which Tom Mecredy is working on for the Outremer supplement, we have included these warriors as sunbaked veterans guarding a caravan of pilgrims to the fortified hospital.

KNIGHTS OF THE ORDER OF SAINT LAZARUS

"There's something different about these chaps...?" The military order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem originated in a leper hospital founded in the twelfth century by crusaders of the Latin Kingdom. There had been earlier leper hospitals in the East. The Knights of St. Lazarus claimed to be the continuation, to have the appearance of remote antiquity and therefore to pass as the oldest of all orders.

Initially, the Order of St. Lazarus was purely an order of hospitallers. Still, it has been claimed that the Order assumed a military role in the 12th century, and even though this is not supported by verifiable evidence, it hasn't stopped us including them as a military order.

We have included these two leper knights to mix with the other military order mounted packs. By painting the green cross upon their mantle, which The Leper Brothers of Jerusalem wore, you have a group of Lazarists ready to add to your retinue.

These are final stretch goals revealing everything we would like to be able to release for this Kickstarter. I will work out an "All-in" deal for one of everything and let everyone know how much it will be. I feel that when we unlock all these stretch goals, Mr Hicks will be beside himself, and at that point, we may be able to tempt him into making us a freebie (or two)!

Stay safe everyone. 😃

End of Day Five and more stretch goals unlocked!
almost 2 years ago – Tue, May 17, 2022 at 12:57:11 PM

Imam on foot painted by HVM workbench

Hello everyone, since the last update with the Mamluks, we have unlocked the Arab Light Cavalry 3 and a commitment to print the Outremer supplement plus, we are closing in fast on the first two packs of Turcopoles.

Including said Turcopoles, there are still six stretch goals before we unlock everything we have brought to the party. With this being the most significant Kickstarter Paul and I have ever done, we have to say it's impressive going indeed.

MILITARY ORDER KNIGHT BANNERMAN

Unlocked on the first day, Mr Hicks has had the opportunity to finish the mounted sculpt for the Military Order Bannerman offering you the choice of fielding him on foot or from horseback.

In my mind, I see him as a veteran knight with plenty of experience, ideal for defending one of the order's banners and the perfect warrior to act as the rally point in the heat of battle.

PRINTED CAMPAIGN BOOK

Unlocking the stretch goal that enables us to provide a printed book is quite exciting. In its initial digital format, the idea was to include background for Outremer and retinue lists for several factions. Now we are committed to print, I will see how much more we can squeeze in...

End of Day 3 round-up
almost 2 years ago – Sun, May 15, 2022 at 02:52:49 PM

An excellent evening everyone. It was brilliant to unlock the Mamluk Heavy Cavalry today, as these are currently my favourite sculpts in the Outremer range, which I believe to be high praise indeed when you look at what has been shared so far.

The latest three stretch goals - the Mamluk are unlocked!

With both packs of Mamluk heavy cavalry unlocked and available, we have revealed the next stretch goal: a pack of very characterful Muslim Light Cavalry. Adding these to the others will provide a nice sized group with which to cause some serious mischief to your enemies.

OUTREMER BOOK?

"Are you planning a printed copy of the Outremer supplement?" has been a common question over the last couple of days. The simple answer is yes, as your support has enabled us to include it as a stretch goal. Once unlocked, we will add it for FREE if you have backed at £45 or more.

This wonderful cover has been provided once again by none other than Peter Dennis

WHAT'S NEXT?

"So what's up next after the printed supplement?" I hear you cry, well, we have Turcopoles, and you can view the first of these below hot of Paul's sculpting desk and ready to fight alongside the Franks.

Once the Turcopoles are unlocked as far as remaining stretch goals are concerned we are on the home stretch with three maybe four levels left.  More on these later.

Stay safe everyone. 😃
